‘Scheherazade’ is a shrub rose in 2013 bred by Takunori Kimura in Japan. The deep pink flower with a purple tinge has a diameter of 6 – 8 cm and double-pointed wavy bloom petals which mellow down towards the edges. Scheherazade roses are floriferous and produce many flowers in a single spray almost adequate to form a bouquet.

The rose name commemorated Scheherazade, the main female character in the story ‘One Thousand and One Nights’ in the Middle Eastern folk tale – Arabian Nights. She prolonged her life daily by telling the king one story each day. By the 1,001st night, she had no more story to narrate. The king has already fallen in love with her then. He spared her life and enthroned Scheherazade as the queen.
