Portulaca Umbraticola Variegata or variegated Wingpod Purslane has small broad leaves compared to the foliage of other Portulaca family members that are thick and fleshy. The Portulaca Umbraticola flowers have several colours, and the variegated foliage has a thin yellow margin. The plant parts of the stems, leaves, flowers and roots are all edible and can only grow up to 25 cm tall.
The wingpod purslane makes an excellent choice for a hanging basket or pot to beautify the surrounding with its overflowing leaves and flowers. For proper Portulaca care, light watering will do as the root zone is very shallow. The hanging Portulaca plant is more suitable as an outdoor plant as it requires full sunlight to be in optimal condition. The Portulaca Umbraticola is native to central and South America.
