Jasminum Sambac has several names associated with it. Arabian Jasmine, Sambac Jasmine, Grand Duke of Tuscany, and even Lion Head Jasmine, which is a literal translation from its Chinese term【狮头茉莉】. The cultivated Arabian Jasmine species from South and Southeast Asia is well-known for its intense fragrance like her sister, Jasmine but produces more petals. The scent may also be overpowering to some. The 2 to 3 cm flowers bloom throughout the year in clusters of 3 to 12 at the tip of the branches.
There are several cultivars of Jasminum Sambac, and the one we have in our Sungei Tengah plant nursery is Grand Duke of Tuscany. This variety possesses flowers with a doubled petal count and white corolla that resembles Chandos Beauty rose. The Grand Duke of Tuscany is also less fragrant than other specimens of Jasminum Sambac. The Arabian Jasmine plant loves to be placed under full sun exposure and moist soil to keep its plant care in optimum condition.
