Chiku tree is long-lived and evergreen native to southern Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean. Chiku fruit flesh ranges from a pale yellow to an earthy brown colour with a grainy texture similar to a well-ripened pear. The fruit is sweet and has a malty flavour. The Chiku trees can survive only in warm and typically tropical environments like Singapore. The trees yield fruit twice a year, though flowering may continue all year round. The scientific name for the Chiku plant is Manilkara Zapota and commonly known as Sapodilla.
