The ripe papaya fruit is usually eaten raw, without skin or seeds. The black seeds are edible and have a sharp, spicy taste. India produces about 45% of the papaya trees worldwide.
Sandy and well-drained soil in a tropical climate like Singapore are ideal for the growth of the papaya plant. Standing water can kill the papaya tree within 24 hours. Raw papaya pulp contains 88% water, 11% carbohydrates, and a negligible amount of fat and protein. It also provides a significant source of 75% vitamin C and 10% folate of the Daily Value.
